MIROSLAV ŠUTEJ – Graphics and drawings from the fundus of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb

16 – 31 December 2013 / Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts

The exhibition presents around thirty graphics and drawings by Miroslav Šutej, which were created in the early period of his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb at the Graphic Arts Department in the class of professor Marijan Detoni, and cover the period between 1958 and 1961.The works were exhibited for the first time, and are kept in the collections of the fundus of the works of art and students' works of the Academy of Fine Arts. They represent the research of media within the figurative frame of presenting a motif, and the beginning of focusing and seeking expressions in abstract elements.

By exhibiting the early works of Miroslav Šutej what is also intended is to encourage students to show creative freedom in the research of media, and to illustrate the importance of openness in the process of searching for an artistic expression, which was beautifully expressed by this doyen of modern Croatian graphics in his works.

The exhibition was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.
