Empowering Dance 2 - The Soft Skills Teaching and Learning Approach

The “Empowering Dance 2 - The Soft Skills Teaching and Learning Approach” project builds on the experiences of earlier projects (“Communicating Dance” and “Empowering Dance - Developing Soft Skills”). The new project continues to delve deeper into identifying, collecting, analysing and articulating the implicit skills developed through dance practice by focusing on examples of select contemporary dance practices involving a community of non-professionals. The project began in December 2020 and will continue over a period of two and a half years until May 2023.

The findings of this project will be published in a digital handbook to assist dance practitioners to identify and communicate the soft skills they use and generate in their respective practices with non-professional dance communities. The research investigates how soft skills can be developed and transferred, as well as positively impact the confidence of those engaging with dance practice. The publication of the digital handbook is scheduled for Autumn 2022. Multiplier events will then be held in all partner cities through spring 2023.

The responsibility of the University of Zagreb, Academy of Fine Arts (Sveučilište u Zagrebu, Akademija likovnih umjetnosti) in the “Empowering Dance 2 - The Soft Skills Teaching and Learning Approach” project is to develop and produce short animated videos and other illustrations that will be part of the digital handbook. The students of various visual arts disciplines (primarily Animated Film students) and their mentors will identify key points revealed in the analysis provided by the project’s research team. Key points will then be featured and designed in the creation of short animated videos and other illustrations. Following on the feedback and testing by other project partners, those materials will be incorporated in the digital handbook. Assoc. Prof. Danko Friščić will be coordinating the project at the University of Zagreb, Academy of Fine Arts and working as a mentor-professor to students working on the visual content of the digital handbook.
