MARK GISBOURNE was born in 1948 in Stratford-on-Avon, England. Education in Rome and at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. Lecturer in the Master's Program, Slade School of Art, University College, University of London and Senior Lecturer at Sotheby's Institute, Master's Program (Accreditation University of Manchester).

Former president of the British Art Critics Association (AICA) and international vice president who co-organized the World Congress of Art Critics, Tate Modern, at its opening in 2000. He is an international curator of numerous international exhibitions, he was in charge of the major German exhibition "ElectiveAffinities/Wahlverwandschaften" in the Latvian National Museum in Riga, 2016. He is a writer and author of more than 12 books and over 270 catalog essays, as well as several hundred articles and Reviews published in over twenty languages.
