School of Contemporary Humanities
The Subversive Festival has developed into one of the most important progressive film festivals and highly appreciated intellectual and activist events in Eastern Europe gathering not only acclaimed theorists like Tariq Ali, Gayatri Spivak, Michael Hardt, Slavoj Žižek, Saskia Sassen, Antonio Negri, David Harvey, Bernard Stiegler, Maurizio Lazzarato, Chantal Mouffe, Francois Laruelle, Catherine Malabou etc., but also serving as a platform and network for progressive movements from all around the Balkans and Eastern Europe as well as a bridge between these movements and wider European and global actors. With growing programme every year we are continuing with our School of Contemporary Humanities programme we started in 2014. For out week-long, free workshop we invite up to 40 undergraduate and graduate students in social sciences, humanities and arts. This year’s SCH is conceived as a dynamic course combining formal and non-formal modalities of learning with our partners from Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. The topic of this year’s programme is “Social Dimension of Cultural Policy” in which we are hoping to find new ways of governing the field of culture. Lecturers are as follows: Ursula Huws (University of Hertfordshire), Richard Seymour (London School of Economics), Primož Krašovec (University of Ljubljana), Marko Kovačić (Social Research Institute, Zagreb), Antun Vujić (Miroslav Krleža Institute for lexicology, Zagreb), Renato Stanković (University of Rijeka), Jelena Milić (Kastav Cultural Summer), and workshop mentors will be Tina Ateljević, Oliver Benni, Antonin Charret, Matthieu Angevin, and Bernard Koludrović.
The Subversive Festival would like to invite you to this year’s School of Contemporary Humanities in Zagreb 8-14 May. Course will be held at Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Zagreb. Working language of the SCH is English. For more information please refer to attached documents. Accommodation and traveling expenses will not be covered by the organizers, but we can help you find the best solutions. To register you need to fill the registration form and write a motivation letter/essay on social inequality rendered by cultural policy (1000-1500 characters) and send it to bernard@subversivefestival.com.
