Animafest Zagreb 2023 / Academy of Arts, University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia
Group exhibition
Group exhibition of works by students of the Academy of Arts, University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia.
FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION
The essence of animation is to create new worlds from scratch, it is an art form that intertwines various creative disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, and film, to produce captivating works that are greater than the sum of their parts. At the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, we strive to offer students a wide range of expressive tools, so that students can explore beyond traditional artistic boundaries. Students act both as lead authors and as members of dynamic creative teams. Through the program, they gain an understanding of the field they have chosen while also developing a broad knowledge base and a critical view of contemporary technologies, art, information media, and society. Our mission is to channel students into graduates who not only possess the skills, but also the creative spark and critical thinking abilities needed to thrive in an ever-evolving industry.
The exhibition presents graduation films by Miha Reja, Anja Paternoster, Katarina Blažič, Amadeja Kirbiš and Nika Karner, as well as the graduation film by Sandra Jovanovska. The projects of current students Dragana Stanković, Domen Sajovic, Melita Sandrin, Tamara Taskova, Neda Ivanović, Anđelina Petrović are still in production and are presented with scenographies, puppets, animation sequences and AR designs. The mentors to the students were Kolja Saksida (head of the Animation Module) and Timon Leder. The exhibition will also feature a selection of regular guest mentoring production workshops that we organize – including short works produced with Michael Frei, Miloš Tomić, Sasha Svirsky & Nadya Svirskaia and at a workshop in collaboration with the Stoptrik Festival, under the mentorship of Hugo Covarrubias.
The Art School of the University of Nova Gorica with its informal predecessor Famul Stuart has been operating for almost thirty years. It currently performs BA and MA programs with load-bearing modules in animation, film, photography, new media and contemporary art practices. The holder of the animation module has evolved since its inception in 2001, and students can choose to work in different techniques – from stop motion puppet, cut-out or relief, to analogue or computer-drawn animation, digital 2D computer animation...
