Towards the event

For the second year in a row, students and professors of the Teaching Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb are organizing an exhibition that presents the Open Day of Art - Cash & Carry, for our department and the Academy of Fine Arts and the wider cultural public, for many years a recognizable and unavoidable cultural, artistic, promotional and educational event with a humanitarian character, which will open its doors for the fourteenth time at the Teaching Department of the Academy of Fine Arts. It is a kind of platform for the development and exchange of communication and the creation of a direct dialogue between young artists and visitors, who, in addition to spending all day with students in their working environment within the classrooms, studios, have the opportunity to see and experience the processes of creation and presentation of works and participate in the various contents that the program offers.

Through the exhibition Towards the 14. Cash & Carry presents the activities of students related to the upcoming event, which partly confirms the current activities and permanent aspects of the program, but also announces new, fresh formats that are given by the students of the 3rd year of the undergraduate study of Fine Arts, as the holders of the program, with the support of mentors and professors.

The exhibition includes several current segments of the event, including the selection of student art production in the current academic year, which is the result of year-long student work and forms the backbone of the event, and through which we have the opportunity to see the diversity of approaches in thinking, the application of a wide range of techniques, the scope of using tools and ultimately the realization of ideas. The art works of students of the 3rd year of undergraduate and 1st and 2nd year of graduate studies at the Department of Education, executed in the media of painting, sculpture, graphics and applied graphics, are part of the study program in which students improve the development of individual artistic expression through mastering classical techniques and getting acquainted with contemporary art practice.

The exhibition includes conceptual solutions for the poster Open Day of Art – Cash & Carry and artistic solutions for "paper reminders" in the format of flyers, with which students of the 3rd year of undergraduate studies think about the promotional aspect of the event in different ways and gain experience on the application of visual communications as an integral part of contemporary culture. The promotional and educational aspect of the C&C project also points to the segment in which students gain experience in organizational skills and encounter with marketing, media and sponsorship cooperation.

The exhibition also features graphics and graphic folders of students of the 2nd year of undergraduate and 2nd year of graduate studies, which complement the holdings of works intended for the humanitarian exhibition; as part of C&C, it presents an important segment of the event, pointing to the need to act in the community through the development of awareness to help those in need.

During the exhibition, art workshops will be held in the Gallery under the guidance of final year students of the Teaching Department, who, by applying the knowledge acquired during the interdisciplinary teaching process, confirm their competencies and, in accordance with the curriculum, announce another important program activity of the upcoming manifestation.

In the end, it remains for us to invite all interested parties to join on Saturday, May 12, 2018 and attend this unique event in a pleasant atmosphere and experience everything that makes fine arts special and important for society and culture in general.
