Drawing marathon

Group exhibition

A group exhibition of works created from 2013 to 2019 as part of the Drawing Marathon project.

FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION

The goals and program of the Drawing Marathon as an extracurricular activity of the Teaching Department of the Academy of Fine Arts have points of contact with the curriculum of the elective course Drawing Processes, where students of the Academy of Fine Arts, through examples and practical work, are introduced to various possibilities of applying drawing techniques and processes. The guideline and guiding idea of the Drawing Marathon is the introduction of new methods and a wider range of materials, with a significantly different time frame than the one applicable in teaching, because drawing is carried out continuously for 24 hours, which intensifies and improves student practice. The event has opened up opportunities for creative gathering and socializing, where individual and group works of various drawing and painting approaches are created as a result.
Drawing, as a way of contemplating the manuscript and the author's idea, is one of the most direct forms of expression in the visual arts. Understanding the drawing form as a flowing, permeating complex, and not just a preparatory or additional segment of artistic research, results in complex processes of imaginative reflection and drawings as independent art objects. The exhibition presents the works of marathon runners/students of the Academy of Fine Arts, created at the Drawing Marathons continuously since the first event, held in 2013. Our wish is to show the diversity of interpretations of motifs and themes through drawing techniques and formats, created in a given time frame and intensive drawing, and to position the event as a relevant point for placing drawings and drawing processes in a wider artistic context.
