Mario Romoda / Intuitive Maps

Solo exhibition

FROM THE PREFACE OF THE EXHIBITION

Maps as an intuitive way of recording and archiving unknown signals of the subconscious.

During the creative process, I am often taken to a situation where the flow of certain ideas does not find its way. Looking for a concrete answer, stimulation of certain paraphrases, thoughts, my ideas are imprisoned in an intricate state where visibility is lost in the unawareness of what is offered. A state that is not defined at first, but subject to breaking a code that I did not even know myself. As an artist, I am aware that ideas often take on a transformative form that may not have been planned, and that in the process itself we come to various shortcuts that have arisen due to certain external influences. Our subjective memoir of thoughts is subject to a new form that tells us something else. It is for these reasons that the artist creates paths that lead him to a new goal, even though it is not necessary. The process of elaborating thoughts is necessary, where we can make our way easier. Without deviating from the original principles, I become aware that by elaborating my thoughts that I transfer to maps, I reach a state of exceptional mental ease.

Maps have a path in them. A path that does not repeat itself from day to day and allows us to elaborate our thoughts more recently, and we come to a psychologically unconditioned process of the flow of worlds where we are able to express ourselves in a complete sense. Although the conditionality of looking at linear problem solving that allows us only one form of solution, I am aware that the problem needs to be viewed from several layers.

A journey or journey, by its definition, is leaving and arriving from one point of destination to another. But what we are often not aware of is that we are connected to our inner journey that seeks many other answers, whether it is connected to our external environment, whether we should be where we belong or whether our essence actually belongs to some other goal. The intuitive maps that I record on styrofoam are a small beginning of solving my search. I record paths that I do not know, I draw maps that I have never seen, and yet they exist because I create them. In a certain parallel universe, they exist as an accumulation space of the consciousness of my being.

He enrolled in the third year of study with Prof. Jurić, where he received the award for the best student in the same year. He enrolled in the graduate study of painting with Professor Zoltan Novak, where new experiments included studies and searches on styrofoam as the parent medium through which he commented on capitalist themes through Art Informel. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2012 with three major awards through studies in five years (two commendations from the University and an award for the best student drawing in Belgrade, in 2009).
