INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF STUDENT WORKS of the academic year 2016/2017 of the courses CITY PLANNING (Department of Urban Planning, Spatial Planning and Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb) and PROJECT ASSIGNMENT WITH SEMINAR (Department of Spatial Planning, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Ljubljana).
The exhibition WORKING WOMAN IN THE MAKING/EMERGING presents the results of international cooperation achieved during the summer semester of the academic year 2016/17 in the field of teaching between the Department of Urban Planning, Spatial Planning and Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb and the Department of Spatial Planning of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana.
Students and their teachers were faced with a demanding and challenging urban task of thinking about possible future scenarios for the development of the seemingly forgotten southeastern part of the city of Zagreb.
The "eastern diagonal" – the area along Radnička Street is recognizable today by the location of communal and largely neglected industrial spaces. With modern urban expansion, there is a need for functional and design transformations of the area, which are especially actualized by the construction of the Homeland Bridge and the extension of the airport, which makes Radnička cesta one of the main entrances to the city in terms of traffic.
The conducted urban research therefore aimed to examine possible scenarios for the development of the entire city stretch – from the airport to the city center.
The exhibition presented a selection of the most successful student proposals of both faculties. Different approaches in a creative but at the same time professionally based way offered a rich palette of urban scenarios for the development of the southeastern part of the city and can serve as an incentive for the necessary professional discussion on systematic planning of the city with the concept.
The results also show that the achieved way of international cooperation brings added value to all participants in teaching, the local community and profession, and the space that was the subject of student work.
